 "Coward of the County" is a country song written by Roger Bowling and Billy Ed Wheeler, and recorded by American country music singer Kenny Rogers. It was released as the second single from the Triple Platinum album Kenny in November 12 1979.
  The song is about a man's nephew who is a reputed coward, but finally takes a stand for his lover.

The song inspired a 1981 television movie of the same name, directed by Dick Lowry, the film's plot stayed true to the song's lyrics.

At the age of 15 while still in secondary school, I loved listening to this song. I still think I had a thing for country music because my school was located in a village..Btw I av always loved kenny's beards it reminds me of the Grand dad depicted in harlequin romance novels with a Texan theme
